Women Leaders in Technology

The tech industry is moving fast- and it should! Today, technology isn’t just a way people shop- it is also a way people govern, make critical decisions that will guide our civilization’s future. But this industry isn’t inclusive. For something that affects everyone equally, there aren’t equal representatives of women, people of color, ideas from the global south, marginalized and disabled communities, and LGBTQIA+ folks. Women Leaders in Technology aims to bridge this gap.

We run a yearlong fellowship program for university-level Computer Science students identifying as women. Every year, 15 participants get selected through an open call. They learn leadership skills alongside technical training in a two-week bootcamp at the end of which they build a product in the form of a website/app. They go through a holistic growth through various activities throughout the year in forms of: mentorship from program alumni, a three-month working internship at a partner company, and self-led Hour of Code(introducing coding to young kids) programs. They graduate from the program in a year but do not stop getting themselves engaged. They support newer cohorts as the years go by and keep receiving opportunities to help them become leaders in their fields.
