Imagine what happens when a country produces less than what it requires? On average Zimbabwe require 220,000 metric tonnes of soya beans for stock feed, food, and other industrial needs, but it can only produce 60,000. Its effects are obvious shortage of stock feeds resulting in high stock feed prices. We are therefore bringing in a solution of adopting fly farming, turning trash into cash.
As the organic waste decays, it produces greenhouse gases which affect the ozone layer triggering climate change. Food loss and food waste contribute to 8% of greenhouse gas emissions. At Zim Maggot producers, we recycle organic waste using black soldier fly and the larva is used on stock feed formulation.
